Light, Warmth and Family-Friendly Living

Designed by Simone prior to joining reimagined habitat

This Brighton East family home began with a layout that simply wasn’t working. Rooms felt tight, the kitchen was cut off from the living and dining areas, and there was no direct connection to the garden — a challenge for a busy family of four craving space, flow, and sunlight. The home was also cold and draughty in winter, and both the kitchen and bathroom were well overdue for an upgrade.

The transformation centred on rethinking the existing 130 m² floorplan and adding a 44 m² rear extension to create a functional, warm, and beautifully connected family home. As part of the renovation, all old windows were replaced with high-performance double glazing, and insulation was retrofitted throughout the entire home to improve comfort and energy efficiency.

The reimagined layout now offers three bedrooms plus a guest room/study, two modern bathrooms, a generous walk-in pantry, and a new laundry. At the heart of the home is a bright, spacious open-plan kitchen, living, and dining area that opens onto a north-facing deck and the lush rear garden — finally giving the family the indoor–outdoor connection they had long desired.

Natural light fills the new living spaces, creating a warm and uplifting atmosphere that supports everyday family life. The renovation not only modernised the home but significantly improved its thermal performance, reducing draughts and making it far more comfortable and efficient throughout the seasons.

Thoughtfully extended and upgraded, this Brighton East home now delivers the space, warmth, and flow the family needed — all while preserving the charm and character of the original house.
