Our Approach
reimagined habitat was founded with a vision to help everyone live in a healthy, beautiful, energy-efficient, and sustainable home. Specialising in sustainable building design, we incorporate the principles of Passive House—one of the world’s most stringent energy-efficient design standards—to create homes that live well, touch the earth lightly, and inspire through thoughtful design.
With one of the largest cohorts of Certified Passive House Designers in Australia and our inhouse energy assessors, our team blends experience with fresh perspectives to craft a strategy that suits your budget, site, and lifestyle.
Energy efficiency is central to everything we do. To ensure your home achieves optimal performance, we utilise energy rating and solar modelling programs as essential design tools. By utilising NatHERS modelling and analysing sun paths throughout the design process, we help you make well-informed decisions that enhance the comfort, sustainability, and energy performance of your home.
REIMAGINED HABITAT’s APPROACH
REIMAGINED HABITAT ensures your design becomes a reality by following best practices, incorporating regular progress reviews and budget checks throughout the process. The journey is broken into the following stages:
Phase 1: Feasibility and Concept Design – Core Service
Bringing your thoughts and ideas to life and designing your dream home in collaboration with you.
Phase 2: Detailed Technical Documentation – Core Service
Develop your home design into precise technical drawings, ready for consultant input, builder cost estimation, and building permit approval.
Phase 3: Construction Oversight – Additional Service
Supervise the construction process to guarantee the highest quality in bringing your home to life.
SUSTAINABLE & ADVANCED BUILDING MATERIALS
At reimagined habitat, we pride ourselves on offering innovative, sustainable building solutions that deliver exceptional performance. While we are experienced in designing and building with all types of construction, we are excited to introduce you to our tested and proven prefabricated and panelised systems, developed in partnership with our sister company, Net Zero Plus.
Why Choose Prefabrication?
Our prefabricated systems offer a range of benefits:
- Speed: With walls, ceilings, and roofs prefabricated and ready for assembly, on-site construction time can be reduced to just a few days—even in inclement weather.
- Efficiency: Faster assembly minimises the costs and disruptions associated with prolonged site work.
- Precision: Factory production ensures high-quality, consistent results for all components.
- Sustainability: Prefabrication reduces material waste and allows for better integration of energy-efficient features.
High-Performing Windows and Doors
We also offer a range of high-performance triple-glazed windows and doors that enhance insulation, minimise thermal bridging, and contribute to a more comfortable, energy-efficient home.
Seamless Documentation
By choosing our prefabricated building system, much of the technical detailing has already been developed and tested. This simplifies the design and documentation process, allowing us to deliver a high-performance home more quickly and efficiently while significantly reducing documentation costs.
If you’re interested in learning more about our prefabricated systems or exploring whether our sustainable materials and high-performance windows and doors are the right fit for your project, please don’t hesitate to reach out our team.
Passive House | Passivhaus
More Than Just Five Principles
At reimagined habitat, Passive House forms the foundation of how we design high-performance homes.
We love Passive House because it is based on building science, measurable targets and proven outcomes. When applied properly, it delivers homes that are comfortable, healthy, durable and extremely energy efficient.
However, there is an important distinction.
Simply “building to Passive House principles” does not guarantee performance.
Insulation, triple glazing and airtightness are essential — but without modelling and verification, they remain good intentions rather than predictable results.
Passive House is not a checklist.
It is a complete performance system.
The Five Passive House Principles
Passive House buildings rely on five key construction principles working together:
- Continuous insulation – reducing heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer
- High-performance windows – improving comfort and managing solar gain
- Airtight construction – preventing draughts and uncontrolled heat loss
- Thermal bridge-free detailing – avoiding cold spots and condensation risks
- Mechanical ventilation with heat recovery – providing constant fresh, filtered air
When combined correctly, these principles create homes with stable temperatures, excellent indoor air quality and very low energy demand.
But the principles alone are only part of the system.
The Three Elements That Guarantee Performance
To ensure Passive House works in the real world, three additional foundations are essential:
Defined performance targets
Clear, measurable goals for energy demand, comfort levels, airtightness and indoor temperatures.
Proper thermal modelling
Using the Passive House Planning Package (PHPP) to analyse orientation, insulation levels, glazing ratios, shading strategies and ventilation systems.
This allows us to test multiple scenarios and optimise performance before construction begins.
Rigorous quality control
Even the best design must be verified during construction. Quality assurance includes:
- airtightness testing (blower door testing)
• commissioning of mechanical ventilation systems
• detailed construction documentation
• close coordination with builders and consultants
Testing ensures the building performs not just in theory, but in reality.
Together, these elements transform the Passive House principles from a checklist into a reliable and predictable system.
Designed by Certified Passive House Designers
Our in-house team includes Certified Passive House Designers who model and scenario-test every project.
Through detailed analysis we optimise:
- comfort and indoor air quality
- energy demand
- overheating risk
- insulation and glazing strategies
- construction cost
This ensures performance is designed, tested and verified — not assumed.
Integrated With Prefabrication
Our prefabricated building systems further strengthen this approach.
Many complex construction details are already engineered and resolved, allowing us to:
- simplify the design and documentation process
- reduce construction risk and complexity
- maintain high levels of quality control
- deliver high-performance homes more efficiently
This integration of building science, modelling and prefabrication enables us to deliver homes that perform reliably for decades.
The Result
Homes that are:
- comfortable year-round
- healthier to live in
- resilient to climate extremes
- dramatically more energy efficient
Because comfort is not accidental.
It is designed, modelled and verified.
